Cornwall (Cornish: Kernow) is a duchy and the southernmost county in England. The modern English name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon name kern-weahlas, the "west Welsh".
Geographically, it is a peninsula, bordering the English county of Devon at the River Tamar. Cornwall has only two major road links with the rest of England: the A38 which crosses the Tamar at Plymouth via the Tamar Bridge, and the A30 which crosses the county border south of Launceston. A car ferry also links Plymouth with the town of Torpoint on the opposite side of the Hamoaze. A rail-bridge built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel provides the only other major physical transport link. Cornwall's administrative centre is Truro.
